ITALON: QUALITY STANDARDS OF PORCELAIN STONEWARE

Perhaps you didn’t know that the compliance with the standards regarding the quality of ceramic materials is not compulsory; that is to say the tile producer is under no obligation to adhere to the rules. Italon's compliance with the standards indicates the producer's responsibility to keep its product quality standards high and consistent!
About thermal expansion (i.e. tiles' response to temperature variations), for example, the standard does not specify any compulsory requirement, it is simply stated: "available test method". Anyway, it is essential to know this feature, especially if tiles are located outdoors, where temperature variations are sometimes considerable, to avoid the risk that expansion will compress the tiled surface, causing possible detachment and buckling from the backdrop.
Italon porcelain stoneware has a coefficient of thermal expansion lower than 7.0 (10-6/°C); this means that every 1°C temperature increase, there is a lengthening less than 7 thousandths of a mm for every meter of the initial length.
With the third issue of "The Porcelain Stoneware Handbooks" Italon's clients can go in depth into the technical features of porcelain stoneware and its standards, to find out the exact level of quality of the tiles that they purchase.
